Let's Bake Together

Sprinkle Scones

Happy Tuesday, friends!

I’m here with you today with a recipe for the most colourful, vibrant sprinkle scones you’ll ever lay your eyes on. I think we could all use a little more colour in our lives.

Originally, I was going to drizzle the scones with white chocolate, just to give it a nice look. But if I’m being totally honest, I tried melting the chocolate in a bowl that was a little wet so the chocolate seized and that was the end of that.

Really though, these scones are sweet enough that you don’t need the additional sweetness from the white chocolate.

We keep these scones really simple. No fancy ingredients, nothing complicated. Just scone dough stuffed with all the sprinkles you can find.

Just kidding, go easy on the sprinkles. A little goes a longgggggg way. I tried these going a little out of control with the sprinkles and I was overwhelmed by the sweetness. And as you can see, just a few sprinkles goes a long way. These bad boys are literally full of them.

Full. Of. Them.

The scones are good for any kind of celebration (because no celebration is complete without sprinkles), or just for fun to jazz up a gloomy day. They come together in no time and you can’t help but smile when you’re baking with sprinkles. Or really, just baking in general.

My happy place is the kitchen and these scones definitely upped my happiness level.

Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 12 tbsp. unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sprinkles
  • 3 tbsp. heavy whipping cream
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Step 2 Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the butter until the butter is in pea-size pieces.
  • Step 3 Whisk together the egg and milk. Add to the flour mixture and stir to create a dough. Gently fold in the sprinkles.
  • Step 4 Turn out onto a floured countertop and knead for about 30 seconds. Pat dough into a circle and gently cut dough into triangles, cutting into, but not through the dough.
  • Step 5 Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and brush with the heavy whipping cream. Bake for 15-20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Blackberry Chocolate Muffins

Muffin time! I really love a good muffin. It probably comes from my…ambivalence…about frosting. Don’t get me wrong, cakes and cupcakes covered in frosting have their place in the world, I just prefer muffins filled with fruit and just a little chocolate. Blackberries and chocolate […]
