What feels like a million years ago, but was really more like 7 years ago, these were my favourite chocolate chip cookies. I hadn’t discovered the wonders of brown butter yet, so these cookies were 100% the best cookies in the world.
Brown butter anything has replaced these chocolate chip cookies, but trust me, they are still so good. I made them again to reshoot the pictures for these blog posts and I still loved them. Nothing can replace brown butter, but if you don’t have the time, patience, or inclination to make brown butter or you burn it more than you brown it, these are the cookies for you!
If you’re anything like me, you probably have all of the ingredients you need for these cookies ready to go in your pantry. Butter, two types of sugar, eggs & vanilla extract. Flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt & obviously, plenty of chocolate chips.
Unlike most of my other recipes, I do actually use chocolate chips in these as opposed to chopped chocolate. I feel like a classic chocolate chip cookie should probably actually have chocolate chips in it. You know I love my chopped chocolate for it’s meltability and ensuring that there is a river of chocolate in every bite. But you know what? Use enough chocolate chips in these chocolate chip cookies and you’ll still have chocolate in every bite.
These cookies originally came about years ago when some of my high school friends and I used to get together every night for a Friday Night Dinner. The theme was “back to school dinner” and chocolate chip cookies just felt like the right move for that dinner. I mean, what kid didn’t love a chocolate chip cookie?
There, they were declared the “best chocolate chip cookies ever”. Now, it’s been a while, but who I am to argue with a comment like that?!
These are easy, they’re tasty, and above all, they’re nostalgic. Which is sometimes all we need out of our baked goods
